How to Connect to Hermes Internet Using Macintosh

To connect to Internet you need to perform two major steps:

STEP ONE – you need to configure MacTCP (or Open Transport) and MacPPP modules for dialling and connecting to Internet – see menu on the left.
STEP TWO – after your details are automatically verified and the connection with Hermes Internet has been established, you have to start a program which allows you to use one of many Internet resources – some examples of such programs are: Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Eudora e-mail, etc. – see "Setup by Application" screens for sample configurations.

It is important to understand that both the above steps are independent – you can perform the first step only, and gain full access to Internet, but without performing the second step you won't be able to see or do anything interesting. It is also possible to perform the second step only, and start, say, Netscape Navigator without being connected to Internet. Finally, your software may be set up in such way, that you only start step one, and after it has completed, step two starts automatically. However it is important to remember that to start using Internet you need to successfully perform both steps!
