How to Setup IBM OS/2 Warp ver. 3 For Hermes Internet Access

IBM stopped development of OS/2, this product is now in so called "maintenace mode". While IBM is still publishing fixes for OS/2, at the moment (mid 1999) it appears the there will not be any major OS/2 releases in the future.

Do not use "IBM Internet Dialer" - this dialer is only to connect to IBM service. Open "IBM Information Superhighway" folder, then "IBM Internet Connection for OS/2" , and "Internet Utilities".

Start "Dial Other Internet Providers", followed by "Add Provider", and fill in all details.

Check that the first screen "Login info" shows TWO OPTIONS under "Connection Type" - SLIP and PPP. If PPP is greyed out (and it can not be selected), you have the original version of OS/2 Warp which did not come with the PPP support. You may have to perform a retrieve software updates, or obtain the upgrade directly from: ftp.ibm.net/pub/PPP/PPP.ZIP (you also need an unzip program to unpack this file).

  1. Start the Network Dialer called "Dial Other Internet Providers". It is usually a White Dialer Icon in the Internet Utilities Group (the executable file name is SLIPPM.EXE).
  2. Click on the "Add Entry" button, and fill in the following four screens:
