What is Ray Tracing?
Ray Tracing is a technique by which you can create photo-realistic images. This technique simulates the interaction between objects and light. Photo-realistic images are created by modeling the optical properties of light. Ray Tracing is based heavily on modeling light, 3-D objects, surface finishes, textures, and colours mathematically.
What is the Internet Ray Tracing Competition?
The Internet Ray Tracing Competition (IRTC) is held every two months with entries received from all over the world. One submits a graphic image to IRTC to be judged.
Any computer rendering program may be used to make the image. Some programs are PovRay, Bryce 3D & Moray. There are many programs which enable you to do ray tracing. Some are free, some expensive. PovRay, the one that we have used to create all these images, is a free program.
Topics are set for each round and one makes an image(s) to fit the Topic in the two months allowed.
The voting period is 14 days and is done by the entrants and other judges.
