Windows 98 – Changing The Existing Internet Parameters to Connect to Hermes Internet

Open My Computer and Dial-Up Networking. Sample screen below shows three existing connections. You may leave the connections you already have, and start Make New Connection

Change the default label My Connection to some meaningful name, for example Hermes Internet.

Select your modem from drop down list ("standard modem" also works for many modems, but it is always better to install correct driver for your specific modem model – if in doubt, please see the modem documentation, or contact the reseller).

Make New Connection - select modem (27K)

Fill in country and area code and the Internet access phone number.

important: see below how to deselect "dial country and area code" default!

After completing the setup you may delete the old icons or leave them.

Right click on Hermes Internet icon (see screen shot below), and from a menu which pops up select Properties. Deselect option "dial country and area code". This is very important! If this option is left selected (default), your computer will be dialling 6102… prefix, and you always get busy signal!
