How to Connect to Hermes Internet Using Macintosh OS 8.xThere are many pictures (screen shots) on this page. To avoid frustrating long wait while the pictures are loading to your computer, we used lower resolution graphics. All relevant entries are explained in the text, please use the pictures as a guide only. Macintosh OS 8 is very easy to setup for Internet connection.
Screen 1 click on Update, and click on right bottom arrow to go to the next screen.
Click on Add Internet Configuration, then click on right arrow. You can also Modify or Remove existing configuration, if you have some previousle created configurations.
Type in Hermes Internet, or any other name. Below: How will you be connecting to the Internet? click on Modem.
Select your modem from the list. If your modem is not listed, try different modems, or contact the place you got your modem from for advice. Select your port (typically Modem Port). Select Tone or Pulse (typically Tone).
Type in local access phone number to dial Hermes Internet service: 47803000. Type in your user ID, for example: joedoe Type in your password, for example: joe97do13e
IP address...? click no.
Type in: primary and secondary DNS (Domain Name Server): 203.35.8.194 and 139.130.4.5 Type in Domain Name: hermes.net.au
Type in your email address, for example: joedoe@hermes.net.au and password (which we gave you with your new Internet account), for example: joe97do13e
Type in your POP account, for example: joedoe@mail.hermes.net.au and SMTP host computer name: mail.hermes.net.au notice prefix mail (mail server name).
Type in NNTP news server name: loomi.telstra.net
Click Go Ahead (if you want to connect now, click Connect When Finished). You can also review the settings by clicking on Show Details.
Connecting to the InternetThere are several ways you can connect to the Internet:
Please notice that "Name" is the Internet user name allocated to you (first part of your e-mail address), not your real name!
