How to Configure Outlook Express for Internet Mail and
News
Outlook Express is installed on your computer when you
install Microsoft Internet Explorer ver. 4.0. It allows you to use (send and receive)
e-mail and news.

How to Configure Outlook Express for Internet Mail
You can start Outlook Express from icon showing envelope
and globe located in tool bar, from similar icon on your desktop, or from Start menu
(Start, Programs, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express). Once in Outlook Express, perform
the steps as below.
Names of the Internet Connection Wizard boxes are shown here in bold
the text which you have to type in various fields is shown here in bold and italic.
 | Tools, Accounts:
in the Internet Accounts dialog box click Add, then click Mail |
 | in the Your Name box:
type the name you want others to see when you send a message, for example: Jane Doe
click Next |
 | in the E-mail Address box:
type the e-mail address for the account you are using, for example: janedoe@hermes.net.au
click Next |
 | in the E-mail Server Names:
select POP3 as "my incoming mail server is", and then type the names of your
incoming and outgoing mail servers: mail.hermes.net.au
click Next |
 | in the Internet Mail Logon:
select "logon using:" and in:
POP account name type your user name, for example janedoe
Password type your password, for example: ja29ne95doe7
click Next |
 | in the Friendly Name:
type a name to identify the mail account you are configuring, for example: Hermes
Internet Mail
click Next |
 | in the Choose Connection Type:
select: "I will establish my connection manually"
(if you select "use my phone line to connect", you will be prompted to either
create a new Dial-Up Networking connection or use an existing one), click Next |
 | in the Congratulations, click Finish. |
Note for advanced users:
This procedure can be used to set multiple
account profiles to collect your e-mail from different accounts (different
ISPs) when connected to the Internet. Please note that most ISPs (including us) do not allow
email relaying between foreign both,
sender and recipient.

How to Configure Outlook Express for Internet News
Follow the steps as above with the following differences:
 | after clicking Add, select "News" (when configuring the mail
above, you selected "Mail") |
 | when ask for News NNTP Server name, type loomi.telstra.net |
 | you can type different "friendly" name for the news account,
for example: Hermes Internet News. |
Outlook Express is now configured for Internet mail (e-mail) and news.
