Malaita Point Abseil

Leiat on Malaita Point
Leiat on Malaita Point.
This is the longest abseil - 40 metres.
Great views of the Jamison Valley and the
Three Sisters surround you all afternoon.

This trip is designed for those who have little or no previous experience with abseiling, and wish to try an easy descent before moving on to the more adventurous, heart-pounding expeditions that ROPEWERX offers.

We begin the day teaching you how to abseil, starting on a 4 metre high beginners block, moving upwards to a 20 metre abseil. Lots of descents to boost your confidence level and to find out just how safe and easy it is to abseil.

We then move on to a scenic location to have our gourmet lunch and well deserved cuppa whilst enjoying the mountains view.

After lunch we follow the main ridge down Malaita Point. The abseils are all straight forward and not too daunting to those new to this exciting adventure sport. Six abseils, ranging from 10 metres up to 40 metres, makes for an enjoyable day.

The scenic backdrop with it's panoramic views of the Three Sisters and the majesty of Mt. Solitary in the foreground of the Jamison Valley make this a fun and exciting day. A short walk then brings us to the Scenic Railway and we complete our trip with a ride back up this amazing old miners railway.

Malaita Dynamic Duo Abseil

Malaita Wall
The stunning Malaita Wall (The Pinnacle).
See if you can spot the abseiler!
Top left on the wall, beside the vertical crack.

Take Malaita Point (described above) and the Pinnacle, add them together and you have the Malaita Dynamic Duo. We start with the easier Malaita Point in the morning, after a sumptuous lunch we finish the day off with the more challenging Pinnacle.

For a full on day out on the cliffs this is a great combo!

The Pinnacle - located only 5 minutes drive from Katoomba, this multi pitch abseil is guaranteed to get your heart pounding and the mind soaring with it's exposure!

5 abseils totalling over 200 vertical metres into the Jamison Valley make this an unforgettable adventure.

Ten minutes down the track brings us to the first stunning abseil! Look over the edge and it's 80 metres to the first ledge.

Our first abseil is 45 metres down this totally vertical wall. We pause briefly on top of a rock pinnacle, before continuing another 35 metres to the ledge. There we calm our shattered nerves and give our hands a chance to stop shaking!

We still have 3 more abseils to go before reaching Terra Firma, including an awesome overhang that you'll remember for years!

Panoramic views surround us all afternoon as we descend into the Jamison valley. The Scenic Railway then takes us back up on the steepest rail track in the world.

Grade:
Medium, previous abseiling experience required
