THE BELGARIAD
The Storyline in the singleplayer campaign of the Belgariad deviates
only slightly from the actual story. This is done for simple gaming
reasons. No one wants to play a game in which a Character talks for
half an hour, or where you don't fight any adversaries. We are also
limiting the number of party members that the Mrin Prophecy indicates.
Due to the fact that the game slows to a crawl if you have too many
NPC's.
This is an extract from the Mrin Codex (Also known as the Book of
Prophets)
In the early days seven gods ruled over Earth. But only
two of those seven are relevant to this story… These two gods ruled
over their separate races, the Alorns and the Angaraks. The kind and
benevolent god, Aldur chose the Alorns. The Alorns were an honourable
race of humans with a fiery taste for bloodshed and a love of the
broadsword. There were six countries in the kingdom of the Alorns:
Riva (The capital, named after King Riva Iron-Grip)
Cherek (Named after King Cherek Bear-Shoulders)
Drasnia (Named after king Dras Bull-neck)
Sendaria
Nyissia (Named after the fourth god Issus)
Ulgo (Named after the sixth god Ul)
Kal Torak, the evil god with a love of violence and
human sacrifice chose the Angaraks; they were already consorting with
dragons and daemons at that time and had thus branded themselves outcasts
to virtue. There are four countries in the land of the Angaraks:
Cthol Murgos (The capital and home of the Murgos)
Thull Zelik (Home of the Thulls)
Gar Og Nadrak (Home of the Nadraks)
Mallorea (Home of the Malloreans)
When Aldur came to earth he chose four sorcerers to
become his disiples, they would follow him and lead the Angaraks in
any attack on the kingdoms of Aloria. His disciples were:
Belgareth: (Aldur's first disciple and one of the most
powerful sorcerer in the world.)
Polgara: (Belgareth's daughter, she has the ability
to speak all animal languages.)
Beldin: (A disfigured Dwarf with the power to transform
into other creatures.)
Belzedar: (A Sorcerer with evil intentions.)
Aldur then created the Orb (Or Chrag Yaska as the Angaraks
call it), a stone that held the very essence of magery, the stone
had the ability to do anything it's master desired. Aldur gave it
as a gift to the first Rivan King and placed him with the task of
guarding it. Belzedar stole the Orb and carried it to Kal Torak who
tried to use the Orb's power for his own evil intent. But the Orb
had it's own power and it will only work for one who is without ill
intent. The Orb burned a hole through Kal Torak's head and caused
the earth to split in two. The daemons were released from hell and
began to spawn on the earth. Billions died in this event. Aldur led
his forces in an attack against the Angaraks and realising that he
didn't stand a chance on his own, Torak named three sorcerers as his
disciples:
Belzedar
Chutchik
Urvon
The World was in ruins, people were dying, battles raged
and the innocent were slaughtered. Then the prophecy appeared it spoke
of one who would bring peace to the world, a sorcerer who would have
an innate ability in magery. This human would be in the direct line
of the Rivan Kings and would rise up to defeat Kal Torak and the evil
he unleashed… Or to die trying…
