TREATY NOW!!

"We want our ceremonies. We want our language. We want our stories to be told to our children. We want to sing. We want to dance....(because) we want to talk to our land, and the land to talk to us"

Galarrwuy Yunipingu, the chairman of the Northern Land Council at the time of this comment.

Apology
We support an official and formal apology to the Stolen Generation of Aboriginal people, and to Aboriginal people in general. We urge the Prime Minister of Australia to offer a formal apology on behalf of all Australian people to Indigenous Australians, something which no prime minister has thus far been willing to do. We believe that any real reconciliation between indigenious and non-indigenous Australians can only proceed on this basis and that to hedge our bets due to fears of claims for compensation is moral cowardice. Reparation must be offered and that must include land rights and adequate funding to allow forms of redevelopment of indigenous land along the lines that traditional owners see as appropriate. There is a price to pay and it must be paid for our spiritual and cultural well being.
