Human Rights and Social Justice Pages

Last Updated March 2006

It is not an uncommon view that psychological and spiritual awareness are somehow incompatible with what are seen as secular socio-political activities.  This is not a view that we support.  We believe that the broad range of human rights and social justice issues which many people perceived to be a major problem in the world arise from a lack of psychological and spiritual awareness.  Clarissa Pinkola Estes, whom we quote below, a long-term social activist and Jungian analyst in the United States says that it was CG Jung's psychological commentarieson the events leading up to him during World War II that drew her to his work.  Volume 10 of his collected Works, "Civilisation in Transition" contains a searching psychological examination of the hidden causes of social strife which give rise to war. it is from an understanding of the works of CG Jung and the Seth material that we approach the problem of the human condition in all its challenges including those of human rights and social justice.

"Persons called to this work typically feel relentless sensation of brokenheartedness about the state of their world, or the world, but also carry an unshakable and inspired hope for humankind. There may be anger as well. The seemingly contradictory but powerful forces of the broken heart comingled with hope are the enduring underpinnings for effecting ongoing and positive change.

Question: You are saying that the social activist has a broken heart?

Answer: Yes, a heart that is broken open - and stays broken open -
a soul alert to its calling."

Clarissa Pinkola Estes - Author of Women Who Run with the Wolves",
interviewed in Psychological Perspectives magazine.

These pages are dedicated the ongoing struggle for human rights and social justice world wide. Jesus Christ said,

"Whatever you do unto the least of my breatheren,
you do also unto me."

Jesus of Nazareth

We do not consider ourselves to be Christians but for us this saying encapsulates what we see as a core value in all struggles for human rights and social justice. It is, to us, also fitting because we believe as Mahatma Ghandi said that;

"Politics cannot be separated from spiritual values."

and that psychology,spirituality and socio-political aspects of life must be integrated.

These pages will be updated in an ongoing fashion to provide links to sites dealing with specific social justice and human rights issues and provide comment from time to time on matters of current interest to us.
