Wish List

This is a page to answer the perennial question, what do you want for Birthday/Christmas. It also goes to show that I am in fact greedy and lazy and that should be taken into account when leafing through these links.

This list will also be used by me to record any shops that I'd like to buy things from one day. I'll try to keep it up to date, moving any wish-come-trues to the second list.

With children in mind:

• All three boys love stories. Books or anything to read are warmly welcome.
• At the monthly Springwood Ivy Markets there is a toymaker by the name of Michael Richards. He makes some great wooden toys, fire engines, trucks, trains as well as some simpler toys. He can be contacted by email at toysinwood at hotmail dot com. The Ivy Markets are held in Springwood Civic Centre from 8-1 every 2nd Saturday. He also does the Blackheath Craft Market on every 3rd Sunday.
• At the Ivy Markets there are two toymakers dealing in wood and one lady from Hazelbrook who works from Jean Greenhowe patterns as a starting point. She makes some lovely dinosaurs and her knitting is beautiful. She even uses proper wool.
• Just Wood Toys and Honeybee Toys have some beautiful wooden toys. These generally cost a bomb, but hunting around their catalogue, there seem to be some more reasonable.
• Glove puppets - our collection is growing.

With me in mind:

• Any albums by Maddy Prior, especially hymns, especially with the Carnival Band
• Hesperion XXI's recording of Llibre vermell de Montserrat
• A learning latin buddy.
• Esoteric linux distributions on CD or DVD. Up to date where possible.
• Books by Fr. Vincent McNabb or Louis de Wohl -- Update! I now have a copy of The Church and the Land by Fr. • Veggie patch lessons.
• Prayers
• Penguin stickers to cover up the windows key on my computer keyboard. Tux graphics also has an open source glue that I am curious to find out about.
• English Folk Guitar, Songs and Instrumentals: Off the Record Transcriptions of 44 Songs and Guitar Solos in Staff Notation and Tablature (Paperback) by Michael Raven. Unfortunately out of print but last time I looked there were quite a few copies available from second hand booksellers in the UK through Amazon.uk and ABE Books. Our local library has Volume 2 which includes some arrangements for guitar/flute(recorder) duets.
• Knitting things - as with all this list I'm in no great need of more wool, but this web site tried to change my mind: Peace Fleece and in Australia there's Bendigo Woollen Mills and Ecoyarns. Generally 8 ply or Double Knitting is what I have most of, but I'd like to try finer knitting, like socks that I can get my shoes over.
• Some thing in the line of the Oxfam Shop
• Long full skirts, head scarves for Mass.

Things that I no longer need, but have interesting links, so I'll keep them up here.

• The new Simplicity sling from Mothers Direct
• A Rebozo, a mexican style wrap that can be used as a baby sling. Birth with Sol carries a range of handwoven scarves or rebozos that average about 70"x30". I'd like to find a suitable East Timorese alternative especially to help the Catholic missionaries there. Some web pages about tais tend to be disparaging of the Catholic Church: "Nearly 500 years of Portuguese colonialism and Catholicism severely damaged the sacred world of East Timor," Strong Cloth: East Timor’s Tais Sara Niner Some tais bear representations of spirits which worries me a little. But I still buy bread from the local vietnamese run bread shop that puts out incense and food for spirits. I ended up buying a bright pink scarf from the Springwood East Timor group. They run a regular stall at the Springwood Ivy Markets.
• A good Montessori print script font suitable for use by TeX. I found a free postscript font at www.macrhino.com where there are also some really wonderful fonts for sale.
• A spare diatonic harmonica. Stairway to Kevin had these beautiful tiny hohner harmonicas going by the name of Puck. I'm now working on my first gregorian chant harmonica album (possibly with Ukulele accompaniment. Adoro te and Salve Regina are top of the list.
• Just about everything on the page from Angelus Press but keep scrolling down till you get to: The book, Ancient Christmas Music for Acoustic Guitar by Gerard Garno is available from Melbay Publications, 1-800-8MEL-BAY, Item #95768. I couldn't find this book, but maybe you'll have better luck. Angelus Press is SSPX owned.
