Sewing, Knitting and other Handicrafts

"Freely have you received, freely give" I learnt to knit and crochet at an early age. My memory is hazy but my mother and my Nanna taught me. The internet has been a great resource (and distraction) with regard to domestic arts like these.

Veronica's Foray into Early Medieval Costume

Crochet a Thurible -- a safety thurible for the aspiring thurifer.

Knit some shepherds inspired by Jean Greenhowe's cute dolls.

Cloth Nappies

And for all those who have said I should try making things for a living, here is my Etsy Shop:

Favourite Free Knitting patterns:

Knitty Knitty is a highly polished magazine full of free patterns with plenty of photos and explanations.

Knitlist A good summary of free patterns - some even have photos.

Socknitters All things socky.

Dishcloth Boutique Perhaps way too fancy for the actual subject matter, but its good to know its there.

Planet Shoup - home of the original Moebius Scarf.

Wool Works Patterns A more bare bones collection of patterns, many in plain text.

In January 2008 I signed up for Ravelry - kind of like facebook for knitters. At this time its in beta testing and only available after applying and waiting for a week or two. If you're on it already I'm down as veroicon. Apart from the fun part of sharing projects, it is great as a database of patterns, many freely available.
