- National Parks - One of the most popluar views is the spectacular Three Sisters at Echo Point. Blackheath is the headquarters of the Blue Mountains National Parks & Wildlife Service and it's Information Centre. Blue Mountains NP site
Zig Zag Railway - The Zig Zag was built between 1866 and 1869 and was the first of its kind for the state of New South Wales. The three tiered system allowed trains to negotiate the steep ascent. - Scenicsender - The steepest aerial cable car in Australia. Takes you on a 545 metre ride into the World Heritage Listed rainforest of the Jamison valley Experience the 300m level boardwalk through the rainforest. Can carry up to 84 passengers. Scenicsender site
- Katoomba Township - Katoomba hosts The Edge Cinema with a screen that is six stories high and among it's features is a film ?The Edge?, which takes you to places in the Blue Mountains which you may never be able to discover yourself. The towns name is a derivative of the Aboriginal word ?Kedumba? meaning ?shiny, falling waters? after the natural beauty of the area.
The Hydro Majestic Hotel - The hotel?s dining area and coffee lounge offers one of the most spectacular views in Australia overlooking the magnificent Megalong Valley. Visitors are welcome to call in for coffee and take in the grandeur of the building. In winter, cosy log fires offer a welcome escape from the crisp mountain air.
- Jenolan Caves - Although part of the Oberon area, Jenolan Caves is within easy reach of the Mountains making it ideal for a day trip. There are nine show caves open to the public with spectacular lighting, underground rivers and cave formations that will amaze you. Blackheath
The town?s shopping centre has an extremely relaxed atmosphere. Of particular interest is the Victory Theatre. While the building is no longer used as a theatre, the owners have transformed it into a spectacular antique centre which is certainly worth browsing through.
From Blue Mountains National Parks & Wildlife Service Information Centre you can take the Fairfax Heritage Track to Govetts Leap where you will see abundant bird life and views of the Grose Valley. View the magnificent 608 metre drop of Govetts Leap Falls and the Blue Mountains' very own "Grand Canyon" as well as the forest below.

Blackheath Colonial History
The first building in Blackheath was "The Scotch Thistle Inn" erected by Andrew Gardner in 1831. The Inn was visited by the renowned scientist Charles Darwin in 1836. Only the original staircase from "The Scotch Thistle" has been preserved and can be found in Gardners Hotel.
