Quong Tart and His Times, 1850 to 1903

from 1 to 4 July 2004
CALL FOR PAPERS
PROPOSALS FOR PANELS, AND PAPERS on any topic related to the life,
times, and contemporaries of Quong Tart, 1850-1903, and in particular
on the following subjects:
* comparative gold fields history;
* social, cultural, and economic history of Sydney and NSW, 1850-1903;
* history of the Chinese communities in and around the Pacific
1850-1903;
* history of Chinese business networks around the Pacific, 1850-1903;
* race relations and regulatory regimes against Chinese in and
around the Pacific, and Chinese responses 1850-1903;
* history of Chinese gambling and opium smoking, and the campaigns
against both;
* Chinese and Anglo-Chinese family histories in and around the
Pacific, 1850-1903;
* comparative history of qiaoxiangs and of their migrant communities
around the Pacific, 1850-1903;
*the legacy left by Quong Tart generation of overseas Chinese;

than 100 words, giving your title, name and address, current position,
and affiliations should accompany your paper proposal.
Proposals for panels should be accompanied by 300-word abstracts
and short bios of proposed panel members giving their titles,
names, current positions, and affiliations.
