Food as Medicine"Medicine" is usually associated with either drugs or horrible tasting herbal stuff, but not food. In fact, most drugs are mainly synthetic versions of plants, new terms such as Phytonutrients and Phytochemicals indicate this. "Phyto" means plant, and all fruit and vegetables contains these phytonutrients and phytochemicals. This is nature's way of keeping us healthy. Often, when our health is deteriorating it is because we are not eating enough of the right foods to keep us healthy. Some dietary authorities have estimated that for a diet to provide a body's needs, it needs 6-9 servings (about 1kg) of fruit and vegetables and 5 servings (about 1/2kg) of whole grains daily. That's a lot of food. Without it, the assumption is that we become deficient in our energy levels and overall health. Only 15% of us live in the "vibrant" health zone, 70% in that grey zone between vibrant and sick, and 15% in the sick zone. Therefore, it is safe to say that about 85% are not getting what we need from the food we eat. The quality of the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe is not as high as it should be. Toxins in the air, additives in the water, pesticides and herbicides in fruit and vegetables and additives to meat all cause problems. Oestrogen based hormones injected into the animals we eat are creating hormonal imbalances, especially in men. So, what to do? Try to buy organic and bio-dynamic foods. They cost more, but savings in health bills will offset that. Get a good water purification system. If taking food supplements, take those which are closest to nature and purest in form. The best are natural food based supplements. Take responsibility for your health and life - ask questions, get other opinions about the food products you buy.
