I'm Andy Woodfin, a PhD student in Precision Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I finished a Masters degree in Applied Physics over just this past summer.

I've been fiddling with POV-Ray for about 2 years now, just dabbling with it here and there, occasionally using it for presentation and seminar graphics; I used some raytraced animations in my Masters defense presentation and got rave reviews, largely due to the fact that most of the audience wasn't aware that software such as POV-Ray was available, not due to any artistic talent on my part.

My fields of study are largely optics and instrument design, so I'm naturally drawn to POV-Ray; I've done work with optical design raytracing software such as Code V and Oslo, but the pictures just aren't as pretty as those in POV-Ray.. I'm currently working on a general interferometry tutorial using Code V and POV-Ray, but it's slow coming..

It's unfortunate that they make me do work here at school, else I could spend a bit more time playing around! I hope to enter the current round with some winter downtime, and I would hope that a full year would give me ample time to work on a horror entry. I had high hopes for my water entry, but the last month was a bit too busy to give it the old college try.

To those who regularly enter IRTC, my hat's off to you... there are some real practitioners of an under-appreciated art form on this list!!
